Anxiety Therapy in Jersey City for Stress, Burnout, and Overthinking

Serving clients across Bergen County including Fort Lee, Tenafly, Leonia, and Palisades Park; Hudson County including Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken; and Essex, Middlesex, and Somerset counties.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ANXIETY THERAPY IN JERSEY CITY, NJ, YOU’VE LIKELY ALREADY TRIED PUSHING THROUGH

You've told yourself it's fine, that other people have it harder, and you just need to be more disciplined.
But sometimes, what’s been holding things together simply isn’t working anymore.

Does this feel familiar?

  • You’re doing everything you’re “supposed” to, but on the inside, you feel unhappy, anxious, and empty.

  • You’re exhausted from being everything to everyone, yet your relationships sometimes feel one-sided, and you leave conversations feeling unseen.

  • You hold yourself to high standards but constantly feel like you’re never quite enough?

  • You want a therapist who actually understands what it means to carry two worlds at once, not someone who tells you to just set a limit with your family without understanding what that costs.

  • You're an AAPI or immigrant professional in Bergen County or Hudson County carrying pressure that's hard to name to anyone around you

You want a life that feels well lived, not just managed.

When your mind is always running, there's no such thing as truly switching off.

That inability to rest?

It doesn't mean something is wrong with you.
Instead, this pattern often traces back to learning early on that love, belonging, and safety were conditional…

And that your worth had to be proved.

Therapy with me, is a place where you can finally exhale.

Together, we’ll:

  • Calm your nervous system, without just trying to think your way out

  • Unlearn people-pleasing, starting with boundaries that don’t feel like betrayal

  • Reconnect with what you actually want, beneath the “shoulds” from family and culture

  • Rewrite the belief that your worth has to be earned.

Hi, I’m Mandy,
your Anxiety Therapist in Jersey City

Mandy Lam, LCSW, LCAT, anxiety therapist in New York City.
A woman with long dark hair and bangs, smiling and sitting on a wooden chair in an indoor space, wearing a light-colored jacket and top.

I'm a licensed clinical social worker, music therapist, and EMDR-trained clinician — and I'm also a 1.5-generation immigrant who grew up between Hong Kong and Canada, holding the tension between cultures long before I had language for it.

I'm a firm believer that we come to know ourselves through relationships — what we've experienced, witnessed, and learned in connection with others. Anxiety, burnout, and overextending ourselves often develop in these spaces too, shaped by moments of rupture, misattunement, or unmet needs. When that happens, repair often needs to be felt in relationship as well.

I offer sessions in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and I specialize in working with AAPI, Asian-Americans and international students who are looking for a therapist who “gets it” without having to constantly explain their cultural background. If that resonates, you can read more about my work with AAPI and immigrant clients.

Therapy with me is a steady, supportive space where you don't have to perform, explain, or have it all figured out.

You deserve to thrive, not just survive.

I work with folks from all walks of life, and have a special place in my work for AAPI and immigrant adults navigating the weight of holding two worlds, including those who want to do that work in Cantonese, my native language, or conversational Mandarin.

WHO I WORK WITH

Most therapy stays in the head.
The body often speaks before the mind catches up. The tightness in your chest before a hard conversation. The stomach that drops when your phone rings and it's a family member. The jaw you clench without realizing until the end of the day. My work is rooted in that mind-body connection, paying attention to what your body is signaling and not just what your mind is saying.

WHAT MY APPROACH IS LIKE

Healing happens in relationship, in the small moments of feeling genuinely seen and understood, maybe for the first time in a long time. Therapy with me is that space. One where you don't have to perform, explain, or have it all figured out before you walk in.

HOW IT WORKS

Welcome to Mindful Roots Collective NJ

〰️

Welcome to Mindful Roots Collective NJ 〰️

A remote practice offering anxiety therapy in Jersey City with a culturally attuned, trauma-informed approach, integrating evidence-based methods including EMDR, somatic work, and the expressive arts.

AAPI, BIPOC,
Third Culture Kids (TCK), & Immigrants

Navigating multiple cultures can bring unspoken expectations, intergenerational pressure, and questions about where you belong. This space allows for thoughtful exploration of identity, values, and cultural nuance - without having to simplify or explain your experience.

International Students and Young Working Professionals

Transitioning into new systems, whether it’s academic, professional, or cultural can feel isolating and overwhelming. Together, we make sense of these shifts, manage anxiety and pressure, and find steadiness during periods of change.

Empaths & Highly-Sensitive People (HSP)

You feel things deeply and notice what others miss. While this sensitivity is a strength, it can also lead to emotional overload and burnout. Here, you learn how to set better boundaries, trust your inner signals, and stay connected without losing yourself.

Overfunctioning/Overextended Adults & High-achieving Professionals

From the outside, it may look like you’re doing well - capable, reliable, accomplished. Inside, you might feel constantly “on,” anxious, or unable to rest. Over time, the work shifts from holding everything together to living in a way that feels more balanced and sustainable.

We Might Be A Good Fit If…

You're ready for honest, deeper work - not just symptom management, but understanding what's actually driving your patterns

01

You're open to exploring not just your thoughts, but what your body has been holding - the shoulders that creep up toward your ears. The chest that pounds before a hard conversation. The stomach that tightens right before you say yes to something you wanted to say no to.

02

You want someone who gets it because they've carried it too. The in-between, the unspoken expectations, the weight of two worlds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Jersey City Clients Choose Virtual Therapy

If you've grown up holding two worlds at once, you already know that anxiety here doesn't always look like panic. It looks like perfectionism, overwork, and the inability to rest without guilt. It looks like being surrounded by people and still feeling unseen.

New Jersey is home to some of the most vibrant AAPI communities in the country, from Bergen County's Fort Lee, Palisades Park, and Tenafly to Hudson County's Jersey City and Weehawken. And yet finding anxiety therapy in NJ that actually understands that cultural context, without needing you to explain it first, can still be hard to come by.

Many of the adults I work with are first or second-generation immigrants, AAPI professionals, or adult children of immigrant families who grew up high-achieving on the outside while quietly holding a lot on the inside.

As a therapist who is also a 1.5-generation immigrant and offers sessions in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, I don't need the backstory before I can meet you where you are.

Virtual therapy means no commute, no Lincoln Tunnel, no NJ Transit delays. Just a session that fits into your actual life, from wherever you are in New Jersey.
